Injured as a rideshare passenger
Passengers in an Uber, DiDi, Shebah or taxi are covered like passengers in any vehicle: the claim goes against whichever driver was at fault — your driver’s CTP policy, the other vehicle’s, or both. You do not need to work out which; the insurers sort contribution between themselves once the claim is lodged. Rideshare trip records make these among the easiest claims to evidence: the app logs the trip, route, time and driver.
Injured as a rideshare driver
Drivers hurt by another vehicle’s negligence claim CTP like anyone else. A driver’s own entitlements beyond that depend on state and platform: rideshare drivers are generally independent contractors, so workers compensation usually does not apply, but platform group insurance, income protection and TPD inside superannuation often do — and are routinely forgotten. In no-fault states, statutory benefits apply regardless.
What to do
Screenshot the trip in the app before it disappears from easy reach, get driver and vehicle details, report to police if injured, and see a doctor the same day. The platform’s incident report is worth lodging but is not a compensation claim.
